On Sept 28th, Hurricane Ian slammed the gulf coast of Florida, bringing life threatening storm surges and wind.

Nurses in Southwest Florida are living, working and breathing in the aftermath of tragedy.

They are navigating the cumulative care taking trauma against the backdrop of a natural disaster.

They are working in the aftermath of tragedy during what has been called a systemic collapse of the US healthcare system.

They are away from their families.

They have lost their homes.

They are doing the best they can to care for themselves while simultaneously caring for others.

All the while trudging through the intense emotions of loss, grief and devastation.

As many of you know, Punta Gorda and the surrounding areas are near and dear to my heart having worked at Lee Health and Florida Gulf Coast University. As a result of my roots there, over 33% of the nurses receiving support via formal Debriefing and our Daily Communication Initiative live and work in Southwest Florida.

Alongside local volunteers, Debriefing the Front Lines is raising money for food, water, hygiene products, shelter and Debriefing support for the Southwest FL nursing commUNITY and their families.
