The National Hurricane Center is predicting that this summer will be an extremely active tropical storm season with up to 5 major hurricanes. Shelters throughout the Gulf Coast and the Caribbean urgently need our help in preparation. Nearly every shelter in Louisiana, which suffered six major hurricanes last year, is filled to or beyond capacity, while the Humane Society of the Bahamas has so many highly adoptable pets that they have had to stop intaking pets and providing services to strays in need. We have also received requests for help from Miami-Dade County, Puerto Rico and the Dominican Republic just as we approach the hurricane season. These shelters are asking us to move pets out of harm’s way so they can be available to take in animals if and when a storm strikes. Wings of Rescue is working to evacuate these shelters before disaster hits, along with providing supplies to help hurricane victims in these hard-hit areas.
Over the next two weeks, Wings of Rescue will transport hundreds of animals from Puerto Rico, the Bahamas and the Dominican Republic in preparation for the upcoming storm season (while continuing our normal missions). With your help we can move more animals out of harm’s way and into loving homes in the United States.
Did you know it costs an average of $125 to fly an animal to safety? Please consider a life-saving gift today. Any amount helps with our mission to Let the Fur Fly! Thank you for keeping us in the skies flying to where we’re needed the most!
