On Saturday OCTOBER 18th we will hold our Healthcare Professionals Retreat on St. Luke's Feast Day in San Antonio. Father Kubat who is the chaplain of the national CMA will be flying in to host this event!

Fr. Kubat was a board certified urologist before answering the call to the priesthood. He leads the CMA's bootcamp for students. We so excited that he has reserved this date for us.

National LEADERSHIP TRAINING MEETING (June)

Finally, there is a call to action specifically for physician and medical student American Medical Association (AMA) members regarding physician assisted suicide. American College of Physician (ACP members / Internal Medicine doctors) also need to fight the proposed neutral stance on physician assisted suicide. See forwarded message at end of this email.

Update from last meeting:

Father Godfrey celebrated mass at historic Mission Concepcion, reminding us in his homily to know Christ is present and calls us to see him in the midst of fear and distraction, just as he was physically present to the disciples after the resurrection, inviting Thomas to touch his wounds, and not be unbelieving, but believe. Blessed are we who believe and have not seen.

We gathered for food and our talk from Natural Womanhood's Gerard Migeon & Jackie Aguilar on the physical, Mental, and Spiritual Gifts of Authentic Women's Health. This rich talk included flipping the secular paradigm of eradicating and controlling menstrual cycles that inevitably lead to contraception and abortion. Their approach is spreading internationally as they share authentic appreciation and understanding of cycles as an integral part of womanhood, health, and even spirituality. This breaks the trajectory of secular medicine's symptom based approach, unmasks health problems to be addressed, and avoids harm caused by standard of care such as oral contraceptives. We had invaluable information shared in the discussion that followed by our members regarding apps available, the link between brain cancer and copper IUDs, even newer side effects of contraceptives coming to light, as well as specific issues that arose at pregnancy help centers, in gynecology, psychiatry, and in medical training. The Guild is not just for physicians but also dentists, nurses, pharmacists, therapists, bioethicists, chaplains, and all others who practice professionally in healthcare. Dear CMA Physician & Medical Student Colleagues:

As you know, concerns related to the expansion of assisted suicide continue to be significant, and CMA has been engaged in these debates in many states. Now, we ask for your help with this issue on a national level.

The AMA Annual Meeting will be held in Chicago June 6-10, and once again, assisted suicide will be on the agenda. However, this year we need your help to support an AMA report submitted by the Board of Trustees, identified as “BOT 18.” The details within this report are important, with two critical recommendations: 1. To reaffirm the AMA position of opposition to assisted suicide, and, 2. To reaffirm the terminology of “physician assisted suicide” rather than “medical aid in dying.”

We need you -- physicians and medical students -- to speak up in support of BOT 18. To do so, you must be an AMA member. If you are not currently an AMA member, please join now as that is the only means we have to influence decisions. There are two venues for your voice: in-person testimony and online comments. If you are able to attend the AMA meeting, BOT 18 will be discussed on Saturday, June 7, at 8:30 AM, before the AMA Reference Committee on Ethics and Bylaws. Providing your support in person is the most powerful means to help this effort. (You can also join the AMA at the meeting, and participate immediately.)

Whether you can attend the meeting in person or not, submitting written comments supporting BOT 18 is very important as well. The deadline to submit written comments is May 22, but again, this requires AMA membership. As an AMA member, you can log into your AMA account, and use this link to submit your comment.

Whether you are planning to attend the meeting or submit online comments, or both, please let me know. For those who will attend the meeting, we will be working with our friends at Patients Rights Action Fund (PRAF) to develop strategies that will maximize your impact at the meeting.

Because of the increasing engagement of CMA members, positive gains are being made to protect moral medicine. You may be hesitant to join groups like AMA due to disagreements with some positions. However, the only means to redirect these groups back to ethical health care is to be actively involved. Please join in these efforts to bring medicine back to its proper role in our society.
