Hello! My name is Madeleine, and I’ve been accepted as a student for Lutheran Summer Music Academy & Festival (LSM), which is a four-week residential music program for high school students. I’m raising funds to help my family better afford this experience. Thank you for your support!

I love music, especially playing piano and trumpet! I’m in all the auditioned music groups at school, including the jazz band, wind ensemble, jazz vocal group, & basketball band! I’m the trumpet section leader in marching band and lead trumpet in our auditioned jazz band. I also am a pianist in our jazz band, (I have to switch between trumpet & piano depending on the song!). I’m also in the Lincoln Youth Symphony, another auditioned group, outside of school.

At church I sing in the adult choir, play in the bell choir, and play trumpet for our jazz group. I recently started working in our church’s brass quartet with timpani. I’m grateful to have had a lot of great musical experiences. In 8th Grade, I was the All State Jazz Pianist, which was a very cool experience! This year I’m in the All State Band playing trumpet. I’m the only trumpet player in Lincoln who was accepted! The concert for that will be at the Lied Center, and I’m sooo excited about playing there!

Along with my brother, I attended Nebraska Wesleyan University’s Piano Day in 2024 and 2025. We went to masterclasses, and I played, “Zwei Rhapsodien”, Op. 79, No. 1, by Brahms, which I also played for the concert in 2025 and “Nocturne in G Minor”, Op. 37, No. 1 by Chopin in 2024. I’m currently also working on “Liebslied”, a Rachmaninoff piano arrangement of a piece by Fritz Kreisler and Debussy’s, “La Fille aux Cheveux de Lin”.

I’ve taken piano lessons for 12 years, and have received superior ratings on piano at all the district and state music festivals I’ve attended. I also played piano for our school musical in both 2024 and 2025. I’ve also gotten to play trumpet in numerous marching bands and festivals, including at the Halftime Alamo Bowl performance in San Antonio, TX, 2023.

I want to be a music major in college, and I believe that LSM will give me an idea of what it might be like. I can’t wait to work with other kids who love music as much as I do. Plus, working with professors in music is exciting, too!

If I can raise $1,000, I’ll earn a $500 match that LSM offers – and anything beyond that will help us a lot. My brother and I both want to attend. Thank you again for your help!

Lutheran Summer Music Academy & Festival (LSM) is the nation’s premier faith-based music academy for high school students. In addition to advanced musical instruction and numerous performance opportunities, LSM students form an intentional community, living together for four weeks on a Lutheran college campus. Since 1981, this unique and immersive program has guided the lives of young musicians who credit LSM as the starting place for their future careers and vocations.
