Community Holiday Food Giveaway
Presented by Illinois Network of Charter Schools & Season to Soar

Overview: Illinois Network of Charter Schools (INCS) and Season to Soar are
partnering to host a Community Food Giveaway to support families in a South Side
neighborhood one of our schools calls home. The goal is to provide 500 families with
essential groceries during a season when food insecurity increases.

Youth-Led Inspiration: This initiative is inspired by 8-year-old Alex Anning, who chose
to celebrate his birthday by launching a food drive instead of having a party. His efforts
powered through Season to Soar with volunteers, family, and community partners has
resulted in over 500 bags of groceries distributed to individuals and families during a
time when SNAP benefits were paused.

Alex’s leadership demonstrates that compassion can start at any age and that small
acts can spark meaningful change.

INCS Involvement: INCS advocates for high-quality public education and strong,
thriving communities. We know students learn best when their basic needs are met. By
collaborating with Alex and Season to Soar we aim to ensure families have access to
nutritious food and one less stressor during the holidays.

Illinois Network of Charter Schools advocates for the improvement of public education by
leveraging the charter school model as a catalyst to transform lives and communities. As the

INCS works to ensure there are adequate and equitable resources for charter public schools, autonomy to find innovative approaches to meet student needs, and a fair and transparent policy landscape that allows high-quality options to thrive.

Season to Soar is a nonprofit organization dedicated to uplifting underserved communities. We empower youth, foster global understanding, and break down systemic barriers by providing essential resources, leadership training, and opportunities for growth. Our work is rooted in justice, equity, and compassion. It is the organization’s mission to develop youth into global leaders and foster global leadership through local problem solving.
