Project (NWDD Baseball Field Build)

We are in the process of building a turf infield/grass outfield baseball/softball field located in central Vancouver on private property. As you probably already know, finding fields to practice and play at in our area is extremely difficult and costly. The cost of renting a field is astronomical (up to $250-$300 per practice or even $500 for games based on the hours needed) and makes a sport like baseball/softball extremely expensive to play. We determined the only way we could make baseball/softball affordable for our players and families was to build our own field. This field will benefit our 6 teams along with local high school, little league and softball teams. It won't be a brand new shiny million dollar field, but one that is built by our kids and families with hard work and dedication. The impact of this field build will stretch much bigger than just our organization. We budgeted $30K for the entire project ($25K used turf cost plus $5K in supplies and labor) with the thought that we could get some community help to make this happen. We have already spent over $50K and the costs keep coming in. A few of our coaches have donated and loaned the organization money to ensure this project gets completed. We are really close to completion and very excited to put the field to use. We just need some $ help to make it to the finish line.

Organization

Northwest Diamond Dawgs is a non-profit baseball program located in Vancouver, WA. We (Aaron Hathaway and Trevor Hahn) started the program 3 years ago with the intention of helping youth learn the game of baseball and the incredible life lessons that come with it. We started the program with one 11U team and have now grown to over 6 teams ranging from 11U to 13U. Aaron and myself both played baseball at a very high level and really want to help these kids reach their goals and find their love for the game. None of our coaches are paid and we ALL volunteer our time for this organization.

About a year ago we built an indoor training facility for our organization. The facility is free to our players and we rent it to local high school and youth teams at a below market cost to just cover our expenses. This project has had a huge impact on our community. We have had a bunch of teams outside of our organization utilizing this when the weather doesn't cooperate. We are hoping our turf field will be even more impactful and what our community needs so kids can play sports at an affordable price.
