You may recognize Illy from the motorcycle community, cheerleading, or her beloved PaPaw. Known for her affection for animals and her kind-hearted nature, Illy also possesses a hint of sass that adds to her charm.

Did you know that Illy battles cystic fibrosis?

CF is a genetic disease caused by inheriting two defective CF genes, one from each parent. This genetic anomaly results in the thickening of mucus in the lungs, pancreas, and other organs. In the lungs, this mucus obstructs airways, leading to bacterial infections, lung damage, and eventually respiratory failure. In the pancreas, it hinders the release of digestive enzymes necessary for nutrient absorption, insulin production, and bicarbonate secretion.

To aid digestion, Illy requires a regimen of medicines and enzymes with every meal.

Clearing airways in CF management typically involves coughing or huffing, making physical activity crucial for maintaining lung health. Exercise, in particular, serves as a social and effective way to facilitate this process.

The financial burden of managing CF is considerable.

BreatheStrong CF, a nonprofit organization, supports Illy and others like her by providing Exercise Grants, alleviating financial barriers to essential activities and exercise.
