ADVOCACY IMPACT 2025

The Problem
1 in 4 girls and 1 in 13 boys in the U.S. are estimated to experience child abuse. More than 90% of sexually abused children know their abuser. Many do not report their abuse at all or until years later. Without the presence of a Child Advocacy Center, a child may end up having to tell the worst story of their life repeatedly to doctors, teachers, police, lawyers, therapists, investigators, judges, and others - or even forced to share the traumatic experience with police where they think they might be in trouble; this could ultimately hurt their case against their abuser.

What We Believe
We believe every child deserves a safe environment to share their story and receive quality care and resources to support what may be a long, challenging journey to full disclosure and fully healing from their complex traumatic experiences.

What We're Doing
Our Child Advocacy Center exists to champion the needs of sexually, physically, and emotionally abused children in Carroll, Haralson, and Heard counties through prevention, intervention, therapy, collaboration, and healing. In partnership with federal, state, and local agencies like law enforcement, child protective services, legal, and health professionals among others, we are uniquely positioned to provide a multidisciplinary and comprehensive team response to a more inclusive range of needs and cases than other individual agencies. We streamline the response when children are unsafe to better serve them. Through 400+ forensic interviews annually, therapy, and medical exams, victim advocacy, courtroom preparation, case management, and other services, we provide a comfortable space for children and their caregivers to receive appropriate services while reducing further trauma.

How You can Help
We are the only non-profit in our area providing the level and quality of coordinated support our child victims need, but there are many more children to help - we simply cannot do what we do alone! With your support, we'll be able to increase our programming, staff, and technology capacity to serve even more children in need.
