We began the San Jose Pop Up Choir in 2015 with a belief that anyone can sing. Whether in the shower, driving in the car or maybe quietly to themselves (things happen when you hear your favorite song at the grocery store). As our membership grew, we work with them to express their feelings and stretch their voices outside their comfort zone to perform, initially among ourselves and later to larger and larger audiences. We performed for audiences consisting of a single person to packed venues with hundreds of people cheering us on.

That energy has prompted us to recognize the need to further support the arts and specifically to help develop the voices of those across multiple artistic disciplines, from theatre and film, to performance arts and singing, to creative artists that are developing their own talent in new ways.

During the course of 2024 we were still contending with the after-effects of Covid, still trying a few pop up events but focusing on things like the Cabaret Show we produce at the Pear Theatre, moving our Open Mic event at Music Village to a monthly event, having a stage during Viva Calle, a holiday choir and for 2025 Hamiltunes once again.

What we found is during these tough times it was hard to keep the momentum going with families and supporters of our group moving away, starting families and without a place to share our events - we had to reduce the number of events and limit things.

2025 and beyond.

Our plan for the future is to once again be able to rent out a small space to rehearse, have classes and events and rebuild a bit. We will not be able to do it without help and we are shooting for a long-term fundraiser to help us get there. We will announce new events soon, but we are back on track to produce a min of four events every month - and plan on building up a nest-egg with donations (plus grant funding) to help us.
