Cathi's Project ~ MRV Income Generating Projects

Our long-term goal is to make MRV self-supporting. We have three projects to help us reach that goal in the next 3-5 years.

1. A corner/neighborhood store selling needed products such as cooking oil, onions & tomatoes, laundry soap, rice, or bread. The store will also service the community and create relationships with families in our majority Muslim neighborhood. The building is semi-complete but additional funds are needed for floors, windows, gates, shelves, electricity, and initial stock.

Finances Needed: $8500

Estimated Net Income: $250-400/mo

2. A public taxi service using two 16-seat vans for transport – one in the city of Pemba, one for a long distance daily trip to other cities. MRV already owns the two vans but funding is needed for repairs/renovations and registration/licensing.

Finances Needed: $6800

($3,500 repairs to Van #1; $800 license renewal for Van #1; $2500 license/registration of Van #2)
Estimated Net Income: $600-800/mo

3. Four- unit complex of small homes or apartments as rental property income.

Finances needed: $135,000

($50,000 land; $85,000 for four 2-room homes)

Estimated Net Income: $1600-2000/mo
