We're going on the road! For three weeks in September and October we're reaching out to congregations up and down the east coast, fostering partnerships and sharing tools to help faith communities be agents for racial justice and healing! A highlight will be a three day racial justice pilgrimage from Atlanta to Birmingham, Selma and Montgomery. Thank you for putting some gas in our tank to help us make all these connections and enable us to further develop resources for faith communities to advance racial equity! We focus our work with congregations in the following three areas, all undergirded by our faith:

Confronting Racism through education and study is a key initial step. We work to help congregations examine the historical and present day, ongoing reality of racism in our society. By engaging podcasts, book studies, pilgrimages to civil rights sites and other activities, we can deepen our understanding of how racism and white supremacy have impacted our own faith communities, neighborhoods and the nation at large. That knowledge provides a foundation upon which we can work for change.

Building Relationships across the divide of race is a second key undertaking in our quest for racial justice. How can we love a neighbor we've never met? Establishing inter-racial relationships between faith communities and on an individual basis is a powerful way to begin to dismantle the racial biases that we all carry.

Building relationships can take place over food, shared mission activities, shared learning experiences, social outings and more. Where faith communities forge partnerships, worshiping together can be a particularly meaningful way of building bridges and community.

Taking Action against systemic racism is a third vital step to promoting racial justice and healing. Educating ourselves and building relationships across the divide of race are extremely important. But if we want to address the racial gaps in family wealth, health care access, treatment in our criminal justice system, employment opportunities and more, we need to think systemically. And so we focus on ways that congregations can advocate for change internally, in their local communities, and in society at large.
