Intro to Heat Pump Sizing With The New Manual H There is a lot of interest in heat pumps at the moment. So, what better time to cover Manual H from The Air Conditioning Contractors of America? We will look at the section of Manual H that focuses on the selection of heating and cooling systems in this webinar. Heat pump selection has gained increasing importance as electrification trends grow. With the desire to use heat pumps as a sole heating source it's never been more important to understand why over sizing air conditioners is bad and how to avoid it. You are correct if you automatically assumed that the H stood for a heat pump. Over the last few months, a handful of ACCA members have been working on updating this manual. Some of the problems anticipated more than 30 or 40 years ago still exist today, and some of the misconceptions we had 30 or 40 years ago still exist today. But more importantly, some of the major advantages that the heat pump can bring us can help us even more today than they did back then. A heat pump is a heat pump, so the content may not surprise you—or maybe it will. I hope you tune in to watch this episode as we discuss how we can take advantage of what heat pumps have to offer. Janowiak’s current position is a full-time trainer along with writing curriculum, writing technical content, and answering questions for the HVAC community. Janowiak is a current participant in several ASHRAE technical committees including but not limited to 62.2, 4.1, 221, and 5.2. Janowiak holds a Master HVACR license in the state of NJ. Lessons Learned Understand how proper heat pump system design can contribute to indoor air quality and promote better health for building occupants. Analyze the safety implications of heat pump system design to ensure that all safety standards and regulations are met for installation and operation. Introduce Manual H concepts to HVAC professionals to ensure that they have the knowledge and skills to design and install heat pump systems that prioritize occupant welfare, decarbonization, comfort and well-being. Articulate the importance of thorough system design documentation to communicate the intended performance and expectations of the heat pump system, thereby promoting efficient and effective operation.
