About Sea MD - a Philosophy

We are pioneers in the realm of extraordinary adventures tailored for the youths we serve, driven by the urgency of our mission. Many of these young individuals face a future marked by reduced mobility and a shorter life expectancy. Often, their lives are shielded by the well-intended protection of families navigating unfamiliar terrain following their child's diagnosis. Mainstream medicine, focusing primarily on paliative physical well-being and curative research, inadvertently neglects the limitless potential within each individual, failing to recognize their infinite possibilities beyond the confines of their bodies. 

Sea MD Mission

Sea MD is dedicated to providing and supporting adaptive Sailing and SCUBA diving journeys for young people.  Sea MD Journeys are inclusive, welcoming any young person with a disability. Our mission is to offer both physical and psychological therapeutic benefits through the transformative experience of adaptive Sailing and SCUBA diving adventures. Our week-long journeys foster a sense of pride and accomplishment as each participant discovers inner powers waiting to be harnessed!

Sea MD Crew

Sea MD journeys empower young people through the unique and liberating medium of SCUBA diving while living aboard an accommodating and stable ocean catamaran.

The Sea MD Host Catatmaran is a platform where so-called "disabled" young people flex their inner strength and resilience. Through the transformative power of the sea, we empower our participants to defy limitations and embrace newfound destinies.

Sea MD crew members include a licensed host Captain; a Registered Nurse experienced in a range of disabilities, including physical and developmental challenges, vision and hearing impairments, amputations, traumatic brain injuries, and more; and a Personal Care Provider.    

Sea MD Curriculum

The Sea MD mission goes beyond accessibility, as every journey is catalyst for triumph. The Sea MD Reef Sciences six-day curriculum combines hands-on adaptive Sailing and SCUBA diving instruction for young people living with MD, ALS, and other neuromuscular diseases and conditions, including immersive learning experiences supporting the United States Virgin Islands' Coral Reef Management Priorities 2020-2025. As participants explore the ocean depths, they gain a deeper understanding of marine conservation and establish their role as scientists in protecting our planet's most precious ecosystems. Sea MD participants dream, discover, and become invested stewards of the ocean, understanding its power, beauty, and fragility in equal measure.

How your donation will be applied:

All Sea MD Donations are utilized 100% to administer and facilitiate adaptive sailing and SCUBA diving journeys for desreving young people living with Muscular Dystrophy, ALS, and other neuromuscular diseases.  

Expenses for a 1 Week Sea MD Journey include:

1. Hosted Accessible Catamaran (5 nights stay for participants, including participant team member)
