Have you ever been asked to slap someone for a show? Ever had to fall over during a performance or tussle with your scene partner? If you're in the Chicago Theater scene, chances are, you're going to have to tell stories of physical violence on stage at some point in your career. This class is for you!

We'll be exploring techniques that are commonly used by fight choreographers to build our physical vocabulary and equip you with tools you can bring to future performances. You'll walk away with a stronger understanding of how to grab, tussle, fall, 'punch', and depict moments of violence onstage more effectively. By building a foundation of sustainable techniques, you'll be ready to take on more complicated choreography while keeping yourself and fellow actors safe. This class is perfect for actors of all movement experiences who are interested in developing their physical vocabulary.

About the Instructor

Tristin Hall (they/them) is a Chicago born and raised actor and Intimacy and Fight Choreographer trained with IDC, SAFD, and BASSC. They minored in Stage Combat at Columbia College where they were a Teachers Assistant for two years and received Recommended Passes in all eight weapons. Tristin has assisted at Summer Sling in New York as well as the British National Workshop. Tristin has been a Fight Choreographer and Intimacy Designer in Chicago for seven years, where they have choreographed at Northlight, Steep, Strawdog, Chicago Shakespeare Theater, Writers, Bramble Theatre, Theatre Evolve, and Citadel to name a few. Tristin is a proud founding member of Point Theatre Project and of Gladiator Fight Night - Chicago's most immersive Fight Show.
