In the fall of 2012, Jeremiah's Hope opened our Rescue Shelter in the village of Kolentsi. The Rescue Shelter meets the temporary needs of children in crisis. Children are placed in our care for a period of a few days, weeks or up to three months. In the summer of 2016, Jeremiah's Hope began pursuing formal registration of our Rescue Shelter under Ukrainian law. That same year, a partnership was formed between Jeremiah's Hope and the Ivankiv Regional Government and New Hope Center for Social Assistance to Children and Families was registered as a separate Ukrainian organization under the umbrella of Jeremiah's Hope and their Board of Directors.
In 2022, the decision was made to evacuate the children from Ukraine and our Rescue Shelter has been temporarily relocated to Zagreb, Croatia due to the Russian invasion and subsequent war in Ukraine. We continue to care for 10 Ukrainian orphans who we were able to evacuate.
Due to a combination of factors, it is costing Jeremiah's Hope far more to care of the children in Croatia than in Ukraine. In Ukraine, we owned the home, had a water well, groceries were much cheaper and we hired retired Christian women who were supplementing their pensions. In Croatia, we are having to rent a large home, pay all utilities, hire Croatian staff at national minimum wage and cover their taxes, etc. So, we are grateful for any contribution you are able to make towards supporting these amazing kids!
