Richard and Cecilia fled the violence in the Democratic Republic of the Congo with their older children and ended up in a refugee camp in Uganda, where their younger children were born. They came to Erie 6 years ago. Richard was a translator at one of our homeownership application sessions and found out that he could apply for his own family. It took Habitat two years during Covid to build their 6-bedroom house - #77 - and they moved in during November 2024.

Dina, the oldest, is studying Finance at PSU Behrend and received the first Ann Townsend scholarship for children from a Habitat household completing tertiary education. Ann passed away a month after Dina met her.
