Friday June 12th artists from STREB's community will perform their latest movement experiments in Friday Nights at SLAM.

About Friday Nights at SLAM

In keeping with our commitment to artistic experimentation and inclusiveness, open access, and community engagement, STREB hosts “Friday Nights at SLAM” throughout the year to showcase the artists in our community. From our dedicated PopAction and España-Streb Flying Trapeze Academy class participants, to artists working at the intersection of aerial arts, circus arts and contemporary dance and theater who regularly rehearse in our space, this is an opportunity for our community to share their work with the public.

About SLAM @Streb_Lab

In January 2003, STREB moved into a then vacant former loading facility for the Old Dutch Mustard Company. While preserving both the space’s unobstructed dimensions (24’ high ceilings and 50’ x 100’ footprint) and physical character (exposed cinder block walls and steel I-Beams and a street-level loading gate), STREB transformed 51 North 1st Street into the STREB Lab for Action Mechanics (SLAM), a multipurpose space which accommodates the company’s school, 130-seat performance space, rehearsal facilities, trapeze rig and administrative offices. Since opening, SLAM has become a gathering spot for exchange of creative ideas across cultures of kids, dancers, gymnasts, circus specialists and pedestrians. SLAM is a place to experiment, a place that examines the difference between public and private, a place that is all public, all the time.

STREB’s Subsidized Rehearsal Space and the Friday Nights at SLAM shows are made possible by the New York State Council on the Arts with the support of the Office of the Governor and the New York State Legislature.
