In July, Mandi Mesenburg received news that forever changed her life — she was diagnosed with Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS), also known as Lou Gehrig’s disease. Mandi carries a rare genetic mutation called SOD1, a familial form of ALS that has also affected her father, grandfather, and great-uncle.

ALS is a terminal disease that causes the brain to stop communicating with the muscles, eventually leading to complete paralysis — all while the mind remains fully aware. There is currently no cure.

Despite the devastating diagnosis, Mandi a mother of four, has chosen courage and advocacy. She is using her journey to raise awareness for this disease and to fight for access to promising new treatments like Tofersen (Qalsody) — a therapy designed specifically for her genetic mutation that has shown hope in slowing or even halting progression. Unfortunately, Mandi’s insurance denied coverage for this life-changing treatment, and her family continues to battle for approval while managing the overwhelming medical costs that come with ALS.

Mandi remains hopeful and determined to make the most of every day surrounded by her children, loved ones, and community. Funds raised will go directly toward medical expenses, adaptive equipment, and ongoing care as she continues to fight this disease with the strength and grace that define her.
