Hello all,

My name is Matthew Schickling and on April 29th, I will be competing in the C&O Canal 100, a 100 mile ultramarathon on the C&O canal in western Maryland. In honor of the upcoming 15th anniversary of Active Against ALS, I've decided to dedicate my run towards raising money for ALS research, with a goal of $15,000.

As you donate, feel free to share your own challenges of doing activities in increments of 15, such as 15 minutes of exercise or running 15 miles. There will also be an option to dedicate your donation to someone and to request that a certain mile be dedicated to a loved one. Please share your stories!

Active Against ALS is a grassroots, nonprofit organization whose mission is to raise funds for research toward effective treatments and ultimately a cure for ALS (Lou Gehrig’s Disease), while raising awareness of the disease, encouraging physical activity, and building a compassionate community. About Me:

Born and raised in Ann Arbor, Michigan, I didn't catch the running bug until my junior year in college when I began to run the back trails of the Air Force Academy along the front range of the Rocky Mountains. That year I ran my first 50 mile race with my roommate and became hooked on the slow and steady grind of endurance running. While I now have multiple 50 mile finishes under my belt, this will be my first attempt at the 100 mile distance.

I will personally be running the race in memory of Bob Schoeni, my fiancé Maddie's father, who passed away in October of 2021 after battling ALS for 13 years. I looked up to Bob for many reasons, especially his character and perseverance throughout his battle with ALS. I am very excited to have the opportunity to share this experience with Maddie, her sister Sophie, and their mom Gretchen.
