What is MedCamps and why is MMPT supporting it through Mustaches for a Mission?

MedCamps of Louisiana is a local non-profit organization that holds a series of one-week, fun-filled camps each summer free of charge for children in Louisiana facing the challenges of a variety of physical and mental disabilities.

Each week-long camp is designed specifically for a particular type of disability and includes appropriate health professionals, specially trained staff and tailored activities. The activities focus is on what campers CAN do, and all campers are encouraged to reach their FULL potential.

In the safe environment of MedCamps, surrounded by other children with similar challenges, these special campers discover they are not alone and gain a genuine sense of belonging, accomplishment and self-worth.

As therapists who spend time with these campers year-round, we recognize how much these children and their family members look forward to this camping experience and how vital this organization is to the families that we serve!

Instead of traditional week long over-night camp this year, MedCamps is offering seven Family Camp weekend sessions where children with disabilities can still participate in the traditional MedCamp summer activities but do so with their family members. Through our Mustaches for a Mission fundraiser, MMPT is partnering with MedCamps of Louisiana to raise $6,000 so that they can update the local Camp Alabama complex with new outdoor play equipment. We would love to provide MedCamps with enough money to provide campers and their family members the opportunity to play tetherball, foosball, ping pong and 9 square in the air together. Our money will also provide campers with a new GaGa Ball Court and Safe Archery Hoverball Set.
