Bhutanese Nepali Community in Columbus

New American Youth Mental Health Programming

Join us in making a difference for the Bhutanese-Nepali community in Central Ohio! The Bhutanese Community of Central Ohio (BCCO) is proud to announce the Pathways to Healing: New American Youth Mental Health Conference 2025—an initiative to destigmatize mental health, empower youth and families, and create a culturally safe space to discuss mental well-being.

Why This Matters

The Bhutanese-Nepali community has faced a history of displacement and trauma that continues to impact mental health. Cultural stigmas often prevent open dialogue, leaving individuals to suffer in silence. By fostering understanding and providing culturally relevant tools, we aim to create lasting change and a brighter future for the New American community.

This groundbreaking conference will address the unique mental health challenges faced by New American communities, shaped by displacement, cultural stigmas, and intergenerational trauma. The Bhutanese-Nepali community has alarmingly high rates of depression and suicide—24.4%, nearly double the national average. Together, we can change that.

Conference Highlights

  • Panel Discussions: Experts will discuss maladaptive vs. adaptive behaviors, mental health research, and stigma reduction strategies.

  • Lived Experiences Panel: Community members will share inspiring personal stories of resilience.

  • Interactive Sessions: Hands-on mindfulness techniques, coping strategies, and intergenerational trauma workshops.

  • Engagement Activities: “Stick it to Stigma” wall, networking opportunities, and more!

Who We’re Helping

This conference will directly benefit the Bhutanese-Nepali population in Columbus, OH, and beyond, including youth, elders, and families while fostering dialogue among New American communities and mental health professionals.
