Our Story: From One Child to a Community

Sixteen years ago, Kulture Kool began with a simple, deeply personal need.

Founder Archana Athalye was searching for quality Indian music training for her 5-year-old son — something that not only nurtured his artistic interests but also helped him stay connected to his cultural roots. When she couldn’t find what she was looking for, she decided to build it herself.

What started as a single class in a rented space soon echoed a shared need in the growing South Asian community of North Jersey — a place where children and families could celebrate their identity, learn their heritage, and express themselves through the arts.

Today, Kulture Kool offers over 25 year-round programs in South Asian performing arts and languages, and brings culture alive through diversity education, public performances, school workshops, library events, and major festivals across New Jersey.

Our journey began with one child’s need, and continues with a mission to create accessible, innovative, and inclusive cultural experiences for all — from toddlers to seniors, from dancers to curious minds, from classrooms to concert halls.
