Join us on Sunday, October 20th from 12 to 3pm, in a workshop guided by Indigo Arts Alliance October artist in residence, Julia Arredondo. In this three-hour workshop, participants will explore the tools and processes of zine-making and collage in a hands-on, cut-and-paste style. Rooted in DIY aesthetics and an intuitive approach to image-making, Excavating the Personal Archive invites attendees to explore the significance of personal ephemera and how it can tell our unique stories through creative preservation. While this may sound like a creative spin on ‘scrapbooking,’ the workshop frames these techniques within the context of fine art, offering a deeper perspective on personal storytelling through collected materials.
Participants are encouraged to bring personal ephemera—such as ticket stubs, photographs, or newspaper clippings—to incorporate into their projects. Recognizing the sentimental value of these items, there is no requirement to share these items with others unless participants feel inspired to do so. All other materials will be provided. Registration is limited to ten participants. Light refreshments will be available, and conversation is warmly encouraged throughout the session
Taking place in the Indigo Arts Alliance studio at 60 Cove Street, Portland, ME 04101, this workshop is free and open to the public.
