Royal Expressions' Story

The Arts Legacy Awards honors Black Artists who have made significant impact in the Greensboro Arts Community for at least 15 years or more. The 3rd Annual Arts Legacy awards will take place on Friday, June 16 at 6:00 pm at the Van Dyke Performance Space in the Greensboro Cultural Arts Center as a part of the Juneteenth GSO Fest, June 15 – 18. This Afrocentric Formal Affair is designed to celebrate Black artistry in Greensboro and particularly artist and arts administrators who have paved the way for Black artists today with service of 15+ years in Greensboro. Our inaugural honorees in 2021 included: The Butler Family, Harris Mintz Dance Company, Diane Robinson/Salimah Dance Company, Donna Bradby, and Congresswoman Alma Adams. Last year we recognized: Lorenzo “Logie” Meachum, Cassandra Williams, Terry Watson, Rasheem “Kilo” Pugh, and Dr. Eleanor Gwynn. Greensboro has a rich arts history, but unfortunately, we don’t hear much about the contributions of Black arts institutions, artists, and arts administrators and we want to take time during Juneteenth to acknowledge and thank you. Our 2023 Arts Legacy Awards honorees include the following person(s)/organizations: Dance Educator: Cheryl Gould Hip Hop Artist: Dana Lucci Visual Artist: James Raleigh Pianist: Chris Robinson Singer: Shelby Johnson Your contribution will offset the costs to honor these legacies in our community. Thank you for your support!
