This adorable 3-year-old with a bubbly smile has long QT syndrome, a congenital heart condition that causes an abnormal heart rhythm. She has had several surgeries, including one when she was 6 1/2 weeks old to implant a pacemaker.

“When you look at her now, you almost can’t believe she’s been through it. She’s active and moving, and talking to us. It’s pretty incredible to see how well she’s doing,” said Sixtus Iwu, Eleanor’s father. “And our care at this point is having follow-ups, now less regularly, making sure she gets her heart medication three times a day and, of course, making sure she’s fine until she gets her next pacemaker replacement.”
