Hazel is one of more than 215,000 children who visit Norton Children’s for care each year. Thanks to you and your support, she is much more than her cystic fibrosis. She is undeniably resilient, smart, fearless and sassy. She has a sweet and delicate smile centered between two unruly pigtails. She loves to look through any book that has pop-ups and gets so excited when she sees a dog.

Cystic fibrosis is a progressive, life-shortening disease that affects many organs — most notably the lungs, pancreas, liver and digestive system.

“There is so much about this disease we cannot control. We cannot control the thick, sticky mucus that is trying to destroy our daughter’s body from the inside out. We cannot control the common cold that turns into a week-long hospital stay. Unfortunately, this is a disease that comes with a life expectancy. And we cannot control the anxiety that a birthday brings as we get one year closer to a ‘life expectancy.’
