When I was eleven years old, my parents and I were evicted from our mobile home — on Valentine’s Day of all days. Up until then, my parents had always managed to fix whatever life threw our way. But not this time. In our small rural town, there was no safety net, no aid, and nowhere for us to turn.
Though we eventually found stability again, that experience changed me forever. I remember the fear, the helplessness, and the uncertainty of not knowing where we would sleep that night. And I remember making a promise to myself: when I grew up, I would do everything in my power to make sure no one else had to face something like this alone.
That promise still fuels me today. It's why I’m supporting Virginia Poverty Law Center’s Justice Day Campaign — because everyone deserves a fair shot, and no one should have to navigate crisis without help.
I hope you’ll join me 💙
