Moms for Social Justice is excited to announce Elsy Perez as our 2024 Agent of Change recipient! We will be matching up to $500 to award to Elsy as she moves to the next phase of her education. If you would like to donate to the Agent of Change Award, click the donate button on this page.

Elsy was nominated by Yolanda Fernandez Jones, her teacher from The Howard School because she worked as an agent of change for the LatinX students while at school. When nominating Elsy, Jones said, “Her senior year of high school, Elsy was determined to change the landscape of celebration at The Howard School by forging the path to celebrate the Latino students that attend her high school. The Howard School has a long and rich history of serving students of color, specifically Black students, but, over the past ten years, the demographics have been shifting as more Latino students have been moving into the area and attending the school. Because of this shift, Elsy wanted to make sure that the school celebrated Latino Heritage Month, which occurs September 15 through October 15, to the fullest extent possible. She worked with fellow students, teachers, administrators, and community members to plan a Latino Heritage Month celebration that honored the culture of the many Latino students at The Howard School.”

A graduating senior of The Howard School, she was elected the Student Body President, completed the Sterile Processing Program in partnership with Erlanger, and is a lead Student Organizer with SemillasTN. In the fall, she plans to attend Dalton State College and major in Radiology. We are incredibly proud of Elsy and can’t WAIT to see what she does next!

The 2024 Agent of Change Award is a scholarship awarded by Moms for Social Justice to an outstanding student of Hamilton County Schools who has made an impact on our community. We value the voices of our students and we want to empower and support those that are looking to make positive changes to our community. Our Agent of Change Award offers a financial helping hand to a stand-out student as they enter college and underscores the importance of their impact.
