About the Event

The Fight Against Suicide was created in the fall of 2021 to create awareness for mental health, promote prevention related to suicide and depression, foster a supportive community around mental health at UGA, and raise money for the Sam L. Asbury Foundation to support its various mental health initiatives. The Fight Against Suicide and the Samuel L. Asbury Foundation were founded in honor of our brother and friend, Sam L. Asbury, who we tragically lost to suicide in 2020. Sam’s infectious sense of humor, competitive spirit, and caring heart left an indelible impact on everyone who knew him—an impact that continues to grow as we expand our efforts. On October 11th, 2024, the fourth annual Fight Against Suicide returned to the Classic Center. Last spring, The Fight Against Suicide expanded outside of the University of Georgia for the first time, making its debut at the University of Alabama. The event at Alabama was a huge success and will take place again next spring. In the spring of 2025 as well, college students at Auburn University and North Carolina State University will host their first Fight Against Suicide, continuing and expanding the mission of The Sam L. Asbury Foundation across college campuses.

Fundraising

You will have the option to credit a fighter or a member of our fundraising team for your sponsorship/donation. You can check out the Story on each fighter's page for why they are fighting and what this cause means to them. This year our fighters will be competing outside of the ring to see which fighter can raise the most on their fundraising page. The winner of this competition will be crowned with The Fight Against Suicide belt at the end of the event.
