Every dog that comes through Karl's Canine Krew carries a story. Some arrive scared and skinny. Some arrive sick. Some arrive fresh out of surgery, still healing from wounds they didn't ask for. And every single time, we make the same promise: we will say yes. We will not turn away.

But saying yes has a cost. And right now, that cost has grown past $12,000.

Our veterinary bill with East Springs Animal Hospital reflects months of emergency care, complex surgeries, diagnostics, medications, and long, careful recoveries for dogs who had no one else in their corner. East Springs has been more than a veterinary partner — they have been a lifeline. They have shown up for our dogs with skill, patience, and a level of generosity that humbles us. They believe in this work, and they have made real sacrifices to help us keep doing it. Now it's our turn to honor that trust, and we can't do it without you.

To understand what this bill really represents, we want to introduce you to just two of the dogs whose care is reflected in it.

Maggie came to us in January 2026 with a litter of puppies, and within days, our hearts were already breaking. Her babies tested positive for parvovirus — a fast-moving, devastating illness — and despite everything we did, we lost two of them. We grieved them. And then we fought harder for the ones who were still fighting. Four puppies pulled through, and each one found a forever home. But Maggie's journey was far from over. She battled tapeworms, then developed intestinal issues so severe she couldn't eat without becoming ill, requiring weeks on a specialized diet. Just as she started to feel like herself again, she was diagnosed with a rare inflammatory lung disease that required two more weeks of intensive treatment. Through every setback, Maggie wagged her tail. She trusted us completely. On April 17, 2026, she finally received her medical clearance for adoption — and went home with the very foster family that had loved her through it all. She is now living her best life in Colorado alongside her fellow foster-fail friend, Cecil.

Gus came to us carrying challenges that weren't visible at first. When he was neutered in August 2025, his veterinary team discovered he was cryptorchid, making the procedure more complex than expected. Shortly after surgery, his body began to struggle — swelling, discomfort, and bloodwork that told a worrying story. Before he could recover, his surgical site opened and began to drain. He needed a second surgery. A drain was placed. He spent weeks in an e-collar, on pain medication and antibiotics, restricted from the play and freedom that every dog deserves. Slowly, carefully, he healed. But he wasn't done yet. Gus then battled a long, stubborn ringworm infection that caused hair loss, itching, and months of patient treatment before he finally tested clear in March 2026. Through two surgeries, countless medications, and more vet visits than we can count, Gus never stopped being sweet. He never stopped trusting us. And earlier this year, that trust was rewarded — Gus found his forever home. He made it.

Maggie and Gus are two stories. There are so many more.
