My name is Diego I. Hernandez (or Toa from friends), and I am a low-middle income, Mexican American, Sweetwater High School Junior who is in the top 1% of his class. After searching for summer programs, I found and was given the incredible opportunity to study abroad with scholarships through the CIEE program in Seville, Spain! This is to learn and practice Spanish, my native language, in the local community and experience diversity in ideology and tradition from a different point of view. In addition, I have the opportunity to receive college credit for my education proceeding after high school! Avoiding paying for those expensive courses through Apps and classes like this, am I right? 

 

This is where the issue comes in and I need your help.

 

As generous as CIEE is in scholarships, there is one thing they cannot cover which is some of the tuition and transportation. Yeah that itself is a lot of money for a one-bedroom apartment resident. 

 

With your help in raising these funds before the Summer, I’ll be able to send myself to go begin my journey exploring the world beyond the city lines of my home grounds. I also really don’t want to be that “no sabo ” kid and get my Spanish proficiency up as a teen in a Spanish-speaking household. 

 

This means so much in every possible way, I refuse to let costs get in the way of my education and pursue to experience this beautiful and very complex world, especially so up close and personal. Thank you
