APHASIA FACTS

Aphasia affects an estimated 2 million people in the United States and is most commonly caused by strokes. Other causes include brain tumors, head injuries, infections and neurologic conditions.
There is also a condition known as Primary Progressive Aphasia (PPA) which is part of a type of fronto-temporal dementia.

More than 200,000 Americans acquire aphasia each year.
Millions of people in the world have a diagnosis of aphasia.
At MnCAN, Minnesota Connect Aphasia Now, our mission is to help those living in Minnesota with aphasia participant fully in life without barriers.
We provide conversation groups, connecting peers with each other to find support, education, connection and hope.
We provide support groups for those living with PPA and their care partners
We provide support for care partners of those with a diagnosis of aphasia from acute injury or stroke.
We are a community coming together to help those living with an aphasia diagnosis a chance to live life fully- one word at a time.
