35 THRIVE Campaign in celebration the Ballethnics' 35th anniversary

For 36 years, Ballethnic Dance Company has fused classical ballet with African roots, creating powerful work that honors culture, expands representation, and inspires generations.

As we celebrate Ballethnic’s 36th birthday, we continue the momentum of our 35 THRIVE Campaign, a commitment to honor our legacy while investing boldly in the future. This moment is not a reset; it is a continuation of thriving.

Founded in 1990 by Nena Gilreath and Waverly T. Lucas II to create opportunities for Black and Brown dancers often overlooked in traditional ballet spaces, Ballethnic has grown into a cultural anchor in Atlanta and beyond. Through innovative productions, education, and community engagement, our work opens doors, nurtures excellence, and tells stories that matter.

Giving through the 35 THRIVE Campaign helps sustain:

The growth and management of our campus located on 2587 Ballethnic Way, producing:

  • Safe after-school programming

  • High-quality productions

  • Dancer training and development

  • Arts education and community outreach

  • Community Gathering for physical, mental, and spiritual wellness

  • Cultural Cul De Sac on Ballethnic Way performances

Sustainable growth of Ballethnic’s operations and legacy

As we mark 36 years of impact, we invite you to celebrate with us, not only by honoring where we’ve been, but by helping power what’s next through your giving.

Together, we RISE & we THRIVE.
