The Bronx is home to vibrant communities and unique natural areas, but it also faces deep-rooted environmental injustices — from limited access to green spaces to disproportionate pollution burdens that impact community health.

At The Bronx is Blooming, we work to address these challenges by growing and supporting a culture of environmental stewardship–engaging youth and community members in hands-on restoration projects that transform local green spaces and build community capacity to care for them over time. Our work is rooted in community and driven by a vision for a greener, healthier, more equitable Bronx.

But we can’t do it alone. We’re calling on our supporters — our neighbors, our partners, our friends — to help us sustain the work that keeps our borough blooming.

Why now?

Spring marks the start of our busiest and most impactful season. Our youth leaders are preparing for the season ahead, our stewardship programs are ramping up, and community members are coming together to care for the green spaces that connect us.

But this year, we’re also navigating a new challenge. Shifts in federal funding have introduced real uncertainty into our planning. Programs we rely on to support youth employment, community engagement, and park restoration are now in question–just as our work is set to grow.

In the Bronx–where green spaces are underserved and resources are already stretched–this uncertainty makes it even harder to meet community needs at a critical moment. Without additional support, we risk scaling back the programs that provide youth with meaningful job opportunities, connect people to nature, strengthen community partnerships, and restore access to healthy, vibrant green spaces.

What Your Support Makes Possible

For more than a decade, The Bronx is Blooming has partnered with youth, schools, community groups, and local residents to build environmental leadership, strengthen neighborhoods, and restore parks through hands-on stewardship. With your support, we can continue this work — and grow it in meaningful ways this season.

Grow Youth Leadership: We provide leadership development and environmental job training for Bronx youth, supporting their academic and professional growth. This year, we will continue to expand our burgeoning Bridge Internship Program, offering new opportunities for young people to deepen their skills and take on greater leadership in park stewardship.
Strengthen Community Engagement: We deliver hands-on environmental education and community programming for all ages — helping residents connect to nature, improve their local parks, and become advocates for their neighborhoods. This spring, we’re deepening our impact in Highbridge, with expanded K–12 education programs and new partnerships with local organizations.
Restore and Steward Urban Green Spaces: Through community-driven restoration projects, we revitalize neglected parks and natural areas, improving ecological health and access to green space. With your support, we’re growing our efforts in Soundview Park, where expanded tree planting and forest restoration work will bring long-term environmental benefits to the surrounding community.
