My name is Trevyn, and I've been accepted as a student for Lutheran Summer Music Academy & Festival. I'm raising funds to help my family afford this experience.

I picked up the viola when I was five years old, since my two sisters were in a program called El Sistema Colorado. I think I'm a fast learner on Viola and get compliments on my intonation. I sometimes have questions with bowing though. I have not enjoyed being the only boy for so many years in the Viola section. With El Sistema, we have performed many concerts there at the music center, at Boettcher Hall where the Colorado Symphony performs, both on stage in side by side concerts and in the lobby before concerts. With my music teacher we have performed recitals many times at the library, piano stores, and nursing homes. I have attended Rocky Mountain Fiddle Camp, Idaho Viola Camp, and participated in many El Sistema summer music camps throughout the years. I have participated in two competitions and have attended many Suzuki Association of Colorado events, workshops, summer camps and classes. I like playing in any environment, regardless of audience size and think I do a good job. One of our El Sistema teachers is a violist in a group called Sphere and we try to go to all their concerts to support them. In 2019, I was a member of Colorado Youth Symphony Orchestra and am with them again this year.

My sister and other people from El Sistema have attended LSM and said good things about it. They want to go back every year. From what I have seen and heard, the teachers at LSM do more than just teach. They care about you, support you, and make things fun too. This is important to me because I really want to improve my technical skills and the teaching artists at LSM promote a healthy environment for that. My sister says nice things about the LSM viola teacher, and I like that he plays viola too, so I can look up to him. I think I can make progress in my abilities because the teachers present things in a good way. By going to LSM, I will get that “high school” experience since it's older kids there, play challenging music, and really get a feel for what my strengths and weaknesses are as a violist. Then I can continue working on those with my private teacher. I want to give it my best at LSM and learn as much as possible so that I feel confident and competent in high school orchestra.

Lutheran Summer Music Academy & Festival (LSM) is the nation’s premier faith-based music academy for high school students. In addition to advanced musical instruction and numerous performance opportunities, LSM students form an intentional community, living together for four weeks on a Lutheran college campus. Since 1981, this unique and immersive program has guided the lives of young musicians who credit LSM as the starting place for their future careers and vocations.
