From the Triangle Fire to Today: How the garment industry has shaped women’s labor and lives

Wednesday, April 2nd, 6:00 PM – 8:00 PM EDT

In Person

During the month of March we celebrated Women’s History Month and commemorated the anniversary of the tragic Triangle Shirtwaist Factory fire where over 100 women perished, many of them Italian immigrant seamstresses. This event will recognize the history of the garment industry, and the subsequent labor movement that evolved following the tragic fire. Join us in this conversation on the role of women in the workforce, and the central role that the garment industry has played in improving working conditions for all. Thanks to the Garment District, generations of women have achieved economic independence and self empowerment. The conversation will be led by led by Professor Donna Chirico with participants including NOIAW 2025 Wise Woman Gabrielle Ferrara, COO of Ferrara Manufacturing, Mary Ann Trasciatti, Professor of Rhetoric and Public Advocacy and Director of Labor Studies at Hofstra University, who is also president of Remember the Triangle Fire Coalition. Registration fees: $15 Members | $25 Non Members Refreshments will be served
