You can finish this year with a gift that maximizes your charitable impact and saves you money. As a qualified 501(c)(3) charitable organization, Lander-Grinspoon Academy (LGA) welcomes your support. Please consider a few options below—and remember that tax laws and regulations can change. For personalized guidance, consult a qualified financial advisor or tax professional.
Immediate Difference
When you support our mission by writing a check or donating online, you help fund our school’s academic and financial aid programs. If you itemize deductions, you can generally write off some or all of your donated amount, potentially reducing your taxable income.
Your deadline: To qualify for this year, your check’s envelope must be postmarked by the U.S. Postal Service on or before December 31.
Gifts of Appreciated Assets
By donating appreciated securities (held longer than one year), you may receive the same income tax savings as a cash gift while avoiding capital gains tax on the appreciation. The Jewish Federation of Western Massachusetts processes all stock donations on our behalf. Please contact Jake to set up your stock donation.
Your deadline: If the securities are electronically transferred, the gift date is when the securities reach our account—not when you initiate the transfer with your broker.
Make a Gift From Your IRA
If you are 70½ or older, you may give up to $105,000 (adjusted for inflation in future years) directly from your IRA to LGA. This transfer, known as a Qualified Charitable Distribution (QCD), will not count as taxable income. If you are required to take minimum distributions (RMDs), you can use your QCD to satisfy some or all of your RMD obligation.
Your deadline: Your IRA administrator must remove the funds by December 31. If you have check-writing features on your IRA, your check must clear your IRA by December 31 to count toward your RMD for the calendar year.
Join Our Business Support Program
If you are a business owner, consider joining our Business Support for LGA program. Businesses may receive tax benefits for charitable donations, although the specifics depend on the type of business entity. We will also recognize your generosity in LGA communications. Please reach out to Jake for more information.
Your deadline: You qualify for the income tax deduction in the year you make your gift.
Matching Gifts from Employers
Many businesses encourage employee giving by offering to match their donations. You can double the impact of your contribution by participating in such a program!
Your deadline: Check in with your employer regarding their deadlines for matching contributions.
Contribute to Your Donor Advised Fund (DAF)
You can start a DAF or contribute to an existing one by a written agreement at a community foundation or sponsoring organization.
Your deadline: You qualify for an income tax deduction when you make a gift to a DAF. If you are ready to start making a difference with your DAF, please consider recommending a grant—or recurring grants—to support LGA.
Estate Planning
Estate planning ensures your legacy is meaningful and lasting. Including LGA in your estate planning can help secure our future and may also reduce potential estate tax liabilities. Consider making a gift of the future to LGA.
Note: Tax laws and regulations can change. Please consult with a qualified tax professional or financial advisor for the most current information and to confirm how these options may apply to your unique situation.
