Library Giving Day 2026

The Impact of Library Giving Day

In recent years for Library Giving Day, the Library Foundation of Spokane County fundraised with the goal of giving books to kids and teens to kick off summer reading.

Each youth who registered for Spokane County Library District’s (SCLD) summer reading program during the past two summers received a new book of their very own to keep.

In 2025, SCLD saw a 76% increase in total registration compared to the previous summer, with over 2,700 children signing up and reading.

Summer Reading encourages kids to maintain or improve their reading skills during summer break, helping to ensure that they are ready to learn and not working to regain forgotten skills when they return to school in the fall.

Our young readers outshined expectations and exceeded last summer’s community goal of 1 million reading minutes.

Let’s do it again!

For 2026, the Library Foundation has again taken on the mission to give well-suited, reading-level books to every kid and teen who registers for summer reading.

To achieve this, the Foundation has set a goal of $5,000 for Library Giving Day.

Your donation to Library Giving Day goes directly to covering the costs of providing books to kids this summer.

If you’re passionate about reading, share this cause on social media to help spread the word.
