Our Goal

Over the past 25 years, the Lavender Library Archives and Cultural Exchange, has been hard at work creating a sanctuary and inclusive gathering space for Sacramento's LGBTQ+ community. In the last couple of years, we have remodeled and re-opened for the LGBTQ+ community to once again have access to relevant books, support groups, and social events in the wake of the pandemic. Now that our glow up is just about complete, now we want to focus on strengthening our existing programs and bring you even MORE of the great events and programming that you love at LLACE.

Our goal this year is to raise $10,000 in general operating funds to help expand what our current groups and monthly events provided to Sacramento's LGBTQ+ community. This would include providing programming hosts with funding to bring in individuals to facilitate workshops, run demonstrations, and/or visit the library for a speaking engagement.

What is the Lavender Library?

The Lavender Library is an all-volunteer run lending library, archive, and community space with LGBTQ+ books, films, and more. We are a hub of learning and connection for Sacramento’s LGBTQ+ community. We host events, support and social groups, and a safe space to be yourself and meet other unique spirits and LGBTQ+ folks in the community.

What Does the Lavender Library Offer?

In addition to being a lending library, the Lavender Library is also the meeting place for a number of groups and regular events.

Our current monthly programming includes the following:

Queer Crafternoon
The Lavender Library hosts a monthly Queer Crafternoon, a fun and creative afternoon of arts and crafts for all ages. All materials are provided, but feel free to bring your own.
GenderQuark
GenderQuark is the Lavender Library and Gender Health Center’s gender questioning and non-binary group. Meet your non-binary/trans/genderqueer peers and discuss topics that affect our community.
Banned Book Club
This monthly book club features a book that has been banned recently and features LGBTQ+ themes. We cannot wait to dig into these powerful stories that highlight the complexities of LGBTQ+ lives and other marginalized voices.
Eclectic? Trash? Book Club
Eclectic? Trash? is the Lavender Library's original book club. The group has been meeting at the library for over twenty-five years and is primarily interested in contemporary LGBTQ+ fiction.
Bi+Pan Sacramento
Bi+Pan Sacramento is a group dedicated to creating a vibrant, positive, safe, and inclusive community for anyone who experiences more than one pattern of attraction or attraction to more than one gender.
Queer Magic Monday
The Queer Magic Monday program meets to discuss oracle and tarot cards, their uses, understanding the cards, and practice. The gathering is a safe and inclusive space for all to learn and explore the magic of these tools.
The Other Mic
Sacramento's longest-running open mic prioritizing Queer, Trans Folks, Women, and BIPOC. The Other Mic is a safe and inclusive space for all performers, regardless of gender or sexual identity, race, or ethnicity. We are committed to creating a community where everyone feels welcome and supported.
Queer Writers Salon
This monthly meetup focuses on creating a space for queer writers to work on their own projects independently but within the community, providing protected writing time in a world that makes it hard to carve that time out for ourselves.
