Helping MASA Enter the 2026 Season Strong
Dear Friends of MASA,
MASA Seed Foundation was established to meet a clear and growing need: to reinvigorate regional organic seed breeding, conserve plant biodiversity, and ensure that high-quality, open-pollinated seed remains in the public domain for farmers and communities of the Front Range.
Since its inception, MASA continues to build its farm into a center of ecological diversity, maintaining a regional seed house, and living laboratory. Each year, our Community Supported Agriculture program provides over 30 tons of fresh, organically grown produce to members while also reaching underserved communities through local food pantries. Organic food production augments the cost and development of domesticated and wild plants adapted to Front Range conditions—supporting both conservation and education.
Our work sits at the intersection of agriculture, ecology, and public education. At a time when confusion around food systems, climate resilience, and agricultural practices is widespread, MASA offers something increasingly rare: practical, place-based solutions grounded in experience, transparency, and long-term stewardship.
What MASA does—and why it matters:
Introduces regionally tested vegetable and grain varieties into the local food system
Plays a participatory role in the national heritage grain revival
Reinvigorates vegetable seed varieties grown in this region nearly a century ago
Maintains a taxonomically organized seed library used for conservation and education
Practices regenerative agriculture that builds soil health and supports carbon sequestration
Provides educational and volunteer opportunities for all ages through hands-on farming and seed work
As we prepare for the 2026 growing season, MASA is facing a familiar challenge for research based agricultural organizations: the gap between winter operating costs and the arrival of spring revenue from plant and CSA sales. This seasonal shortfall affects our ability to meet payroll, make loan payments, and secure essential supplies during the critical early months of the season.
We are reaching out to our community of past, present and future supporters to help bridge this moment and ensure continuity of the work you have helped build. Your support now directly sustains staff, seed production, and farm operations as we move into the heart of the growing year.
Seed work is, by nature, about connecting past, present, and future—about reinvigoration, stabilization, and longevity. With your help, MASA can continue preserving agricultural knowledge, strengthening regional food systems, and growing seeds that belong to everyone.
Thank you for standing with MASA and for believing in the long-term value of this work.
With deep gratitude,
MASA Seed Foundation
