Dear Friends of Overtone,

It’s been an exciting year for Overtone Industries as we continue to grow as one of LA’s longest-running nom-profit opera companies dedicated to the creation and production of new work.

Some highlights from the year include:

A Workshop of Bending the River: A Rite by Lauren Bon and O-Lan Jones, with additional lyrics by Richard Montoya. Co-produced with Metabolic Studio. The piece draws its name and inspiration from Lauren Bon’s ecological art project on “undeveloping” the LA River.
Our first Composer-Librettist Speed Dating Event — a mixer launching our Original Vision program, helping artists find their collaborators, exchange ideas, and begin the long process of building new, ambitious work from the ground up. In partnership with Synchromy.
Collaboration on Opera Fest LA 2026 with a consortium of organizations making opera in LA.

We are proud to reflect this past year and excited for what is on the horizon in 2026, including:

The presentation of Original Vision (April 2026), Overtone's opera development program for early-to-mid career composers and librettists, as part of Opera Fest LA. In collaboration with Brightwork Newmusic and Highways Performance Space.
The continued development and world premiere of Bending the River: An Oratorio (fall 2026) by Lauren Bon and O-Lan Jones. Co-produced with Metabolic Studio.
The continued development and workshopping of MINE, a new opera by O-Lan Jones.

Although we were lucky to receive government tax-deductible support in 2025 from the LA City Department of Cultural Affairs and LA County Department of Arts and Culture, funding for arts programming has become more scarce and more competitive than ever before. Now more than ever, your support ensures that boundary-pushing opera-theater can continue to thrive in Los Angeles.
