The situation in Haiti is in sharp decline. Since the Haitian President, Ariel Henry, announced an increase in gas prices on September 16th, the country has been in utter turmoil. Roadblocks and violent protests have halted all normal activities in Port-Au-Prince and across the island of Haiti. The transportation networks that move all goods are effectively shut down.causing widespread concern and unrest.

The price of 1 gallon of gas today is $29 USD - fuel is almost impossible to find both on the mainland and on La Gonâve. Our Team in Port-Au-Prince reports there are almost no cars on the road, both because of the threat of violence and the lack of available or affordable gas. The price of 1 gallon of gas on La Gonâve was $29 today but more importantly almost impossible to find.

Hospitals are closed - Almost all the hospitals are closed and the two that remain open in Port-Au-Prince are impossible to reach because of road blockages.

Food prices have skyrocketed and supplies have dwindled - The cost of a small bag of rice on La Gonâve today was $80 USD, completely out of reach for people on the island. Our own FYH team is safe but hungry.

Communication is challenging- Digicel, one of the two leading phone carriers in Haiti, has been down for two weeks because of the lack of gas to run the generators and damage to their cables. Natcom, the other carrier, has been in and out.
