The Last Songs of My Mother and Tonton
Play a part in bringing a folklore musical by Celeste Landeros to the stage!
The Last Songs of My Mother and Tonton is coming to the Little Haiti Cultural Complex in Miami in August, and we need YOUR support to make it happen! Audiences will laugh, cry, and sing with Tonton and Grandma Jean in this folklore musical about a family and friends who find beauty as they accompany their elders on their journey to becoming ancestors. Inspired by the lives of master Haitian percussionist Catelus "Tonton" Laguerre and the late Scottish-Canadian-American, Miami-Dade County Public Schools educator Dr. Frances Jean Fraser, this is the story of the passing of two elders from two different cultures in the same house over the course of one long year. These are the last songs of Jean and Tonton.
Last Songs runs August 7, 8, and 10, at the Little Haiti Cultural Complex, featuring Celeste and Fernando Landeros playing themselves; Wesner "Ti Wes" St. Louis as Tonton; Carol Ravich as Jean; Milaimis "Milly" Castellon as Celeste's daughter; and Inez Barlatier as family friend Islande.
Your support is critical, and with Lost Girls Theatre 510(c)(3) as our fiscal agent, all donations are tax-deductible. Plus, we'll send you a gift to show our appreciation depending on your level of giving:
