A lifelong educator in LAUSD, Dr. Hicks envisioned and fought for an all-girls public school focused on STEM excellence—bringing the Girls Academic Leadership Academy to life in 2016 after years of advocacy and relentless dedication. Under her leadership, GALA has grown into a thriving community empowering young women from across Los Angeles to excel in academics, leadership, and college pathways, with exceptional graduation and college-going rates. Her vision has not only transformed countless lives but also reshaped what is possible for girls in public education.
