The company's performance was exhilarating. The guitarist was precise and warm, and Orozco, the cantaor, was masterful in phrasing and intonation - making the words unusually intelligible for the form. Their interplay was a dance in itself. Tovar was explosive and yet understated in his mastery of footwork and castanets- making it look easy. And Peralta - oh my goodness - has reached a true height of proficiency and command of power in movement, expressing pain and longing and softness and flowing beauty. Everything was there - literally breath-taking. The overall composition was also thoughtful and compelling, from the archived recordings of the old master to the yearning for an ideal in the image of the yellow dress and shawl, and the desire to claim and become a part of the manifestation of that ideal. This is the epitome of that art can be at its best.
