There are many legal issues affecting the African American community. Often, it stems

from a lack of information about jury nullification and from county and city attorneys

playing the race game by allowing their group members or tribe to get favorable

verdicts. The system is flawed because far too often, law students of color in Nebraska

are discouraged from fighting the packed system.

Potso Mahlangeni-Byndon, Esq., will talk about the basic issues of the day from the

recent push by the NAACP to use African American young athletes to fight the

gerrymandering occurring in the Dixie states.

We also have racist lawyers who do the bait and switch on unsuspecting residents by

low-balling them, and in many capital offense cases, require a great deal of time and

effort to get poor results.

Over the years, white educational institutions have established legal clinics or other fake

programs without grassroots input or programs without engaging the residents of the

community for accountability.

Potso will highlight the challenges of being an African American lawyer dealing with

racism in a state controlled by many white supremacists who believe in nepotism and

segregation, as indicated by why many attorneys of color leave Nebraska after they

graduate from the all-white law colleges that do not support affirmative action or

reparations for years of segregation. This program is not focused on specific cases by

the public policy information that we need to know before confronting a biased system

that keeps too many in check.
