Jacob Plante chose to organize a 5K event on December 22nd at 12 pm at Alvirne. Jacob focused on inclusion for his capstone project because of his passion for promoting diversity and accessibility in his community. Recognizing that physical and social barriers often prevent people with different abilities from participating in mainstream activities, Jacob wanted to create an event that would bring people together, regardless of their background or challenges. He saw the 5K as an opportunity to not only raise awareness about inclusion but also to demonstrate how sports and physical activity can be a powerful tool for building connections and fostering empathy.
Jacob chose a non-profit called Linclusion provides the invaluable opportunity for children with disabilities to attend traditional summer day camp with personalized carefully selected aides. By covering the associated costs, Linclusion not only fosters inclusion, but also alleviates the financial burden for families.
Jacob's own experiences have shaped his belief in the importance of inclusion, and he wanted to use his capstone project to leave a lasting impact. By organizing the event, he hoped to provide a platform where individuals of all abilities could come together, challenge stereotypes, and celebrate the diversity of their community. Ultimately, Jacob aimed to show that inclusion isn't just a concept but a practice that can be woven into the fabric of everyday activities, creating a more compassionate and understanding world for all.
