Eaton Fire Relief Fund: Rebuilding, Renewing, and Recovering Together

As the flames of the Eaton Fire are brought under control, the scale of the devastation becomes clearer with each passing day. Our community bears deep scars—homes have been destroyed, lives profoundly altered, and the landscape we cherish has been forever changed.

Yet, even amidst this tragedy, we are overwhelmed by the immense outpouring of love, compassion, and support from people like you. In these darkest moments, your kindness reminds us of the strength and resilience of our community’s light.

In response to this crisis, Friends In Deed mobilized to provide critical resources, compassion, and care to those affected. Here’s how we’re meeting the needs of our neighbors in this time of crisis:

Bad Weather Shelter
The Bad Weather Shelter opened on Tuesday, January 7th, two days earlier than anticipated, and operated 24/7 for over a week. 82 individuals utilized the shelter. We partnered with local restaurants and congregations to provide breakfast, lunch, and dinner, along with a warm place to lay down, restrooms, and even showers. This program went back to weather-activated evenings beginning Thursday, January 16th.

Food Pantry
The Food Pantry received tons of donations. Our regular volunteers showed up with compassion and smiles to serve community members starting on Tuesday, January 14th. Food Pantry staff have resumed normal operating days and times, open for clients to come get groceries Tuesdays and Wednesdays from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., and Thursdays from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Street Outreach and Housing
Street Outreach and Housing team members conducted on-the-street outreach to make sure people experiencing homelessness had food, water, masks, and were able to access our overnight shelter. They have also managed to provide dozens of vulnerable families with temporary motel rooms as a reprieve from the cold nights and smoke-filled air.

Eviction Prevention and Rental Assistance
Eviction Prevention and Rental Assistance team members are trying to keep up with the voicemails they have received, to personally respond to as many requests as possible and handle rental assistance requests as quickly as they can. They have also helped to respond to volunteer and donation requests to ensure the right resources get to those who need them most.

The Women’s Room
The Women’s Room staff supported the 24/7 efforts of BWS and opened on Tuesday, January 21st with modified operations. Our guests will be able to come by for showers, laundry, hygiene items, and a to-go lunch.
