I am participating in the Lupus Spiel this year with a couple of my favorite curling friends (Kevin and Nicole). The way it works is club level curlers, like us, sign up to raise money for Lupus research.
World level curlers volunteer to Skip/coach the club level teams for the event. We use the amount of money that we, as a team, raise for Lupus research to 'bid' on the world level curler we get to have for our team.
Lupus is an autoimmune disease that affects ~1.5 million people in American and ~5 million people worldwide. It disproportionately affects women (90% of people living with Lupus are women) and there is a lot of research still to be done to help people who are affected by Lupus. The source of this information and more information about Lupus can be found at https://www.lupus.org/.
So, it's a fun way to raise money for a good cause. Thank you for any support!
