Link Up 2026: 40 Starlink Kits Ready When Texas Needs Them

2025 proved it works. In just four months, Texas DisasterLink — a brand-new 501(c)(3) run from a home garage in North Texas — built, tested, and simulation-deployed 10 Starlink emergency internet kits. When cell towers fail, these kits become the lifeline for first responders, shelters, and families cut off by floods, hurricanes, freezes, or wildfires.

Now we’re preparing for 2026 — a year that will almost certainly bring the next big one.

Our 2026 Goal: $35,000. Every dollar goes straight to scaling and sustaining the mission. We've optimized for Starlink's new $5/month Standby Mode to keep data costs ultra-low (~$60/year per kit: standby for off-season + full-speed bursts during disasters).

• $1,050 ≈ One complete off-grid Starlink kit (dish, rugged case, solar + battery backup, mounts, cables, and 12 months of optimized data)
• $250 ≈ Cold-weather upgrades (heated enclosures, extra batteries for winter storms)
• $100 ≈ Fuel + transport for one rapid-response deployment from DFW
• $60 ≈ One full year of low-cost data (standby mode) for an existing kit—keeping it reactivate-ready without breaking the bank
• $35 ≈ One month of full-speed data during an active disaster response
